| Security Gates for Pima Council on Aging | |
|
Pima Council on Aging has a parking lot behind their offices. On the weekends people would drive back there, park and party. Nobody from the front could see them. The offices were broken into a couple times and on mondays someone would have to clean up the beer cans and trash. PCA contacted me and asked me to bid on some security gates to prevent the vandals from accessing the back parking lot. All they wanted was just a simple gate, not a full fledged impenetrable gate like the wall along the border. Also on the west side the driveway was about 40 ft wide so we decided that half of the security gate could be a fence. Needless to say I got the job. |

Here is the west side. The gate is about 20 ft long and 3 ft high. The fence is stepped because the of the slope of the driveway. As you can see it would be very easy to crawl under or jump over the fence. |

Here is the west gate open.
The gate is made out of 2" x 2" x 1/16" thick metal tubing that is welded and painted. |

The gate locks closed and locks open. There is a tab at the end of the gate with a slot in it. On the 'close post' and the 'open post' there is a loop of metal that goes thru the slot and a lock then goes thru the loop, locking the gate open or close. |

The gate rotates on a square post,
'hinge post', which is embedded in concrete in a hole about 3 ft deep.
The gate sits on and rotates on tabs that are welded to the 'hinge post. There is a cap which is secured to the 'hinge post' by the hole that you can see at the top left side. |

This is the gate on the east side. It is basically the same as the one on the west side, just a couple feet longer and no fence. |

This shows the locking system on
the open post of the east gate. Both locks are keyed together. I really enjoyed making the gates. Besides letting me weld, which I enjoy very much, I was able to design the locking and cap system. |

Here is my truck, all loaded up with the 2 gates on top of the rack, the hinge, close and open posts and the fencing in the bed of the truck and 16 bags of concrete (used only 10), wheelbarrows and some tools in my trailer. I rented a post hole digger to dig the holes and a jack hammer to get thru the asphalt. |
| The gates took about 7 days to make and 2 days to install (Dec 15, 2005) | |
