A combination weather vane and wind speed indicator, although no speed scale is supplied, if you know the Beaufort scale, just guess....
This piece rotates like a regular weather vane, but when the wind blows it also 'lays down' according to the intensity of the wind. I have seen within 10/15 degrees of horizontal for about 10 seconds! The indicator has a triangular cross section, 6" at the bottom tapering gradually to 1" at the top where the 'vane' is, 18' in length. The two uprights that support the indicator are 2" square tubes, 6' in length. The indicator rotates in the vertical axis on a 1" support tube that goes accross the tops of the uprights. The support tube can be leveled by screws on the tops of the uprights. The 2 uprights in turn sit upon thrust bearings, a turntable, and then go down lower to a square whose inside is open and has 4 castors that rotate on a 6" dia sch 40 metal pipe that is sunk 3 ft into the ground. The rotating mechanisms is covered with housing so the elements don't degrade their ability to perform. Overall height is about 20 feet. The rotating part weights about 350 lbs. The rotating mechanisms should be greased every year.

Some of my Stick Figures --- The Dancer, A Relaxing Drink, and Stretching

The Dancer, d'apres Degas |
She is
made out of 1" square tubing that is welded together, the joints are ground
smooth and the finish is natural, rust
Where I used to
live in Oro Valley the Javelina also liked her, the dug up area around the
bottom is where the dig their feet in to rub themselves up against her leg. They make her fall over.
She has such delicate balance

A Relaxing Drink |
The
sculpture is made from 3/4" square tubing, natural finish. The glass is made out
of 2 pieces that has been brazed together, with a 'straw' that sticks out. He
seems so relaxed and never asks for a refill...

He is a also very good listener, I talk to him all the time

Stretching |

(picture to come) |
This is also a balancing act...Not all of the person is there, some is left to the imagination, as well as how anyone could actually balance in that stretched position

Everybody has a Rotating Cube. This is my second. The first one I made when I was working for Steuben Glass. It is transparent and a lot smaller

Passing Through |
A simple piece, squares become round and short becomes long...
1" square tubing is transformed into 1" round pipe when it passes through a piece of 1/2" plate. The plate is supported by thin 1/2" tubing on each side. In a wind the piece sways gently back and forth. The base flares up out of the ground to support the piece

Bell |
The Bell is fun to make because of the 12 various bends in the wire that I have to make.. The body of the bell is made out of a foot long piece of 6" schedual 40 pipe. The clapper can be customized with a design, initials or something simple like "Welcome". It can also be painted a color
